Nortel posts hefty 4Q loss

Nortel Networks continued to suffer from declining revenue and widening losses in the fourth quarter, but even more discouragingly, one of the divisions it was hoping would revive fortunes posted some of the weakest results, writes CNNMoney.

The troubled Canadian telecom equipment company is trying to restructure its operations to emerge from bankruptcy as a viable telecom equipment vendor focused on key products where it believes it can have a competitive advantage.

One such area is Nortel's selling of telecom equipment to corporations and other enterprises.

Deltacom deploys Alcatel-Lucent multiplexers

Deltacom, a provider of integrated communications services in the south-eastern US, has completed the deployment of Alcatel-Lucent's next-generation multiplexers as part of its long haul Sonet ring network upgrade, reports PR Newswire.

The company has also completed Metro Sonet ring expansions across several key markets in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Georgia, with expectations to complete several others by the end of the year.

Deltacom's deployment of Alcatel-Lucent's 1665 Data Multiplexer Ethernet-over-Sonet hybrid Ethernet, Sonet and SAN platform currently enables DS-3 to OC-192 SONET protected on- and off-ramps between Deltacom's long haul and metro networks and its DWDM backbone.
