System Software Associates (SSA) has announced that Novartis Pharma AG has completed its Global BPCS v6.0.04 migration project. Although the geographical scope of the project was expanded early in the project, 45 sites went live within 15 months of the start date and the projects came in close to budget.
Novartis`s Pharma Global Project director, Karl-Heinz Schalueck, says the project was a clear demonstration of the results achievable when a team of dedicated professionals focus on an ambitious goal, with visible strong support from senior management. The team showed that when problems arise in project management or with the software, the use of a standard set of project implementation tools and a tight project organisation can effectively overcome the obstacles.
Wolfgang Schmitt, head of Novartis Pharma Competence Centre for Strategic Packages, comments on the calibre of the joint global team comprising Novartis Pharma IT and business specialists supported by SSA professionals.
Schmitt says the significance of the achievement is remarkable given the requirements to achieve Year 2000 compliance, re-engineer business processes, and implement complex ERP software across many sites performing different business functions. To be compliant with the regulatory requirements of the pharmaceutical industry was as important as providing interfaces to other systems in place.
Tim Moylan, SSA`s global consulting manager responsible for Novartis, stresses that the ability to work as a single team was a key success factor in the project. SSA supported Pharma implementations in Latin America, Asia Pacific, and several implementations in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. It also formed part of the Global Project team at Novartis Pharma Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.
Novartis is a world leader in life sciences with core businesses in healthcare, agribusiness and consumer health (nutrition and self-Medication) headquartered in Basel.
SSA products are distributed in South Africa by Armada/SSA.
