Novell upgrade puts Enterprise Connection out in front

Johannesburg, 01 Oct 2003

Enterprise Connection is sipping on yet another success. This time, however, it`s an impressive first in SA. Recognised for its commitment to service excellence and passion for innovation, the Cape Town-based IT solutions provider is celebrating the first Novell upgrade of its kind in the country.

The landmark upgrade for international liquor giant, KWV, has reinforced Enterprise Connection`s position as a major IT player throughout SA.

Released globally on 15 August 2003, Novell`s new Netware version 6.5 and Groupwise version 6.5 are fresh on the desks at KWV. And tipped to streamline business systems significantly.

"We decided to consolidate our investment with Novell," says Jan Woudberg, Network Services Manager at KWV. "Our existing infrastructure and previous experience with Novell and the benefits derived from this experience were reason enough to commit 100% to the new technology and the very professional, hands-on advice and support of Enterprise Connection.

"What`s more, our core business is changing significantly. We needed an IT infrastructure that serviced 450 users, that truly supported and streamlined our needs, and the latest Novell technology will certainly do that," continued Woudberg.

Novell`s new and specialised technology is feature-rich and boasts business benefits that have had it recently rated as the best of its kind.

Novell Groupwise 6.5 is the premier communication and collaboration tool for the one Net environment. Its innovative and open approach to collaboration services enables users to enhance security, control, mobility and productivity, while reducing the cost of managing and maintaining essential communication and collaboration services.

"The technology is centred around the Internet," says Paolo Ferreira, Technical Business Strategist at Novell. "Needless to say, its solutions are centred around the Internet as well. Groupwise 6.5 is about increasing productivity by giving people control over their information, making it instant and mobile and supplying the tools that users need to manage their day-to-day workload effectively and securely."

While the benefits of the new Novell technology are extensive, its roll-out at KWV by Enterprise Connection is equally impressive. Recognised as the first roll-out of its kind in SA, the project is sure to be under the watchful eyes of several big name competitors.

"The task was enormous," explains Pieter Bekker, Senior Account Manager at Enterprise Connection. "It was imperative that we understood KWV`s business and objectives completely before we embarked on restructuring and rolling out an installation of this nature. So many factors came into play. Apart from the obvious software installation, new desktops and the replacement of all the Novell File Servers were required. So too was a new backup system which automates backups from branches and head office."

With the roll-out at the KWV head office complete, Enterprise Connection is seeing the project through at the four additional KWV offices in the Cape. And toasting itself for yet another successful project driven by innovation, hard work and service excellence.
