Now is the time to lay claim on your laptop for under R6 000

Johannesburg, 11 Apr 2005

With the rand maintaining its strength, it is now possible, arguably for the first time, to buy a brand-name laptop - with good specifications - for under R6 000, said Christopher Riley, CEO of Pretoria-based notebook and accessories retailer, The Notebook Company (www.notebook.co.za).

"One of the companies moving aggressively into this price spot is Fujitsu Siemens, which has basically infiltrated the local market by offering a laptop for under R6 000. Two years ago we did not even sell Fujitsu Siemens laptops, but already they account for 30% of our turnover - indicating the extent to which they have penetrated the local laptop market."

The laptop on offer from Fujitsu Siemens is also "no slouch", said Riley, and clocks in with 256 RAM of memory, boasts a Centrino P4 processor, a clock speed of 1.5GHz, a DVD ROM, CD writer and Microsoft XP Pro.

"End-users are, to a large extent, taking advantage of the reduced prices on laptops and we believe we will see sales increase by more than 30% during the 2005 calendar year," said Riley.
