NSS offers mentorship programme to ICT newcomers

Johannesburg, 15 Jan 2007

ICT service assurance management solutions company NSS is offering internship programmes to tertiary institution technology and communications graduates, who will spend time in the company's Consulting and Sourcing Division.

"NSS has traditionally provided bursaries for deserving graduates," says CEO Lynda Odendaal, "however, this year we've decided to take a new spin on our drive to provide skills training to industry newcomers. We are firm believers in meaningful mentorship programmes - students, after spending years in lecture rooms, actually need hands-on training, not more classroom time.

"Hence, by providing mentors, we're taking newcomers to the market on a step-by-step trip down the real world road. NSS provides consultancy, training and product to an array of telcos, banks and government customers, so successful candidates will enjoy structured training in such aspects as service management delivery and learning how to implement process development."

Odendaal says the internship programme will open up a number of potential careers paths in an industry enjoying boom-style growth.

"We're after people who will grow into IT service management consultant positions - jobs which demand independent, lateral thinking firecrackers who will assess the current state of IT processes. Graduates who have been looking at careers in an IT service management or process-related environment - most likely service desk, service level or configuration management - will find the mentorship programme an ideal stepping stone."

Odendaal adds that any skills candidates do not have will be provided via NSS's comprehensive training programmes.

Candidates are asked to e-mail their requests for consideration to careers@nss.co.za, with the word "mentorship" in the subject box.
