Nuance finalises SNAPin acquisition

Nuance Communications, a supplier of speech solutions, has closed the acquisition of SNAPin Software, a provider of on-device self-service software for mobile operators, says Call Centre Clinic.

"Nuance's mobile care strategy focuses on delivering an outstanding consumer experience and economic benefits to mobile operators and enterprise customers," said Mikael Berner, VP and GM of Nuance Mobile Care.

"Acquiring SNAPin allows Nuance to accelerate a broader vision that not only enables customers to dial support, but will also utilise voice recognition and predictive text so mobile consumers can simply dial, speak or text customer care."

Libraries get RFID

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council has awarded DS, part of the Axiell Library Group AB, a five-year contract to supply RFID technology and services to all libraries in the borough, states Publictechnology.net.

DS iTAG will be the first RFID solution for Dudley and initially it will be used in library links and two library refurbishments to allow greater access to services for local people. In addition, it will be used for stock management and to assess stock usage and stock loss.

Over time Dudley will introduce self-service across the borough using DS iTAG to enable customers to issue and return items, check their accounts and make payments.
