Numbers don`t lie, reliability sets Philips apart

Johannesburg, 14 Feb 2003

The recent release of new figures on overall monitor failure rates have confirmed Philips` reputation for providing quality products that stand the test of time.

Says Tyrone Young, sales and marketing manager: monitors & LCD projectors at Philips: "With regards to Philips` three year warranty monitors, we`ve had a field recall rate of 2.2 percent over the last three years, in addition to 0.8 percent of failure rates due to individual instances of monitors malfunctioning. This leaves us with an overall success rate of 97 percent."

Young calculates the lifespan of LCD flat panel displays at six to seven years and that of convention cathode ray tubes (CRTs) at between four and five. "Choosing a monitor should not be an afterthought. A monitor purchase decision can have a huge impact on user productivity and comfort for many years, because often when computer systems are replaced, the same monitor remains in service."

Philips monitors undergo exhaustive testing for performance, reliability, durability and even compatibility with leading computer systems. These monitors are evaluated in conditions that exceed specified tolerance limits for heat, cold, vibration, shocks and drops, to ensure that they have more than enough durability to hold up under real-world conditions.

"Quality makes a lasting impression - one well illustrated by the experiences of Toyota, a long-time Philips customer. They have units still in service, in sub-tropical climates, that were purchased more than ten years ago and some older still," Young concludes.
