Nvidia for 3D PCs

Nvidia has teamed up with Alienware, Asus, Dell, Microsoft, Toshiba and others to promote a new category of PC: the 3D PC, reports Marketwire.

A 3D PC, by definition, includes 3D active-shutter glasses, a 120Hz 3D-capable display, and a graphics processor capable of delivering high definition images to the 3D display.

Displaying at Computex, a computer expo held annually at the Taipei World Trade Centre, major 3D PC partners will showcase 3D desktops, notebooks, all-in-one PCs and displays.

Hitachi unveils hybrid storage device

Hitachi has unveiled a hybrid solid-state drive (SSD) / optical disc drive (ODD) for use in small factor netbooks, set-top boxes and tablets, writes Fudzilla.

The HyDrive is a standard mobile form DVD optical drive with embedded NAND flash memory functioning as an SSD, designed to deliver optimal performance for mobile computing devices.

The HyDrive forms a total storage component for small factor mobile computing devices.

Seagate intros Momentus XT drive

Seagate has revealed the Momentus XT, designed specifically for notebooks, states HTLounge.

The 2.5-inch drive runs at 7 200 RPM with a 4GB SSD. It includes 32MB of DDR3 cache memory, with firmware that optimises the drive performance.

The SATA II drive is OS-independent. There are three versions of the Momentus XT available: 250GB, 320GB and 500GB models.
