NZ targets 2013 for switch

New Zealand will complete the switch to digital television by 2013, reports 3News.

Minister for broadcasting Jonathan Coleman made the announcement for the switchover, which will be the biggest change to New Zealand television since 1973.

It aims to move all television from analogue to digital transmitters. “With 70% of New Zealand households already watching digital television, we are in a good position to set a date for DSO,” says Coleman.

Bangladesh to get satellite tech

Having a mature neighbour like India with established broadcast, communication and IT infrastructure, Bangladesh is all set to unveil its own satellite in the same regard very soon, notes Media Mughals.

The government of Bangladesh officially declared the unveiling of a satellite for the advancement of IT, broadcast and communication technologies in the country.

Different possible aspects related to the release of satellite, its expenditure and implementation were discussed in a high profile inter-ministerial meeting.

Finland brings HDTV to 1.5m

Finland's largest cable TV operator DNA has revealed plans to bring HDTV to 1.5 million Finnish homes by 2011 via terrestrial broadcasting, writes Rapid TV News.

DNA has teamed up with Ericsson to make the HDTV experience available for 60% of all Finnish digital terrestrial TV households by 2011 and will begin deployments in the larger Finish cities by the end of this year.

For its part, the Swedish telecommunications and broadcasting technology company will be the prime contractor for the project, providing network roll-out and systems integration services as well as maintenance and support services.
