Leading document management and printing expert, Oc'e South Africa, is confident of expanding its footprint into the graphic arts sector, after appointing Nick Delport as the company's new Graphic Arts Specialist in March 2011.
Delport, who is a founding member of the Cross Media Training Centre owned by the Printing Industries Federation of South Africa (PIFSA), where he served as Managing Director for more than 18 years, brings with him an essential wealth of knowledge and experience that can project Oc'e South Africa to new heights.
“I have established a number of key contacts in the printing and packaging industries during my career at PIFSA. Oc'e South Africa is looking to gain market share in the graphic arts industry, and I am confident that I can assist in achieving sustainable growth in this sector,” says Delport.
Oc'e South Africa marketing General Manager Peter Enslin points out that he is confident in the fact that Delport will bring value-added service to the company's overall offering. “In order to be successful in the graphic arts industry, it is essential that Oc'e South Africa obtains a comprehensive understanding of the market,” he explains. “Delport's in-house expertise will assist Oc'e South Africa in better understanding this highly-specialised segment of the market.”
Enslin points out that Delport will be responsible for ensuring that Oc'e South Africa gains market share in the graphic arts sector, on a national basis. “An effective competitive strategy can be achieved not only by conducting regular visits to clients - but also by training sales staff to become more proficient in this market. Delport has the relevant skills and experience to guide Oc'e South Africa towards this new and exciting growth path.”
Enslin identifies book publishing as a market that could benefit from Oc'e's digital printing technology. “In the past, books had to be printed in bulk in order to save costs. If copies did not sell, they had to be taken off the shelves and scrapped entirely,” he explains. “With Oc'e's digital printing solutions, this problem can be entirely eliminated, as any number of books can be printed on-demand.”
Looking to the future, Delport points out that his goal for 2011 is to achieve notable market penetration as quickly and effectively as possible. He does, however, admit that he will face a number of challenges along the way.
“While the cost and technological advantages of digital printing far exceed those of lithographic printing, it will take time to change the mindset of the industry, which has been making use of lithographic presses for decades. Oc'e South Africa's highly efficient and reliable products, paired with unrivalled commitment to after-sales and technical service, will be the major driving forces in achieving growth for our digital products in an a new, and somewhat unfamiliar environment,” he concludes.
