Document management and printing expert, Oc'e South Africa, is leading the way in green technology, with the introduction of a revolutionary new line of printing technology to the local market.
The Oc'e VarioPrint 6000 digital perfecting systems provide increased productivity with minimal environmental impact, by making use of Oc'e Gemini technology - which uses one engine to drive two imaging belts simultaneously.
Gemini technology enables the Oc'e VarioPrint 6000 range to print two-sided jobs faster and more reliably, as each sheet only passes through the engine once; thereby, allowing the Oc'e VarioPrint 6000 to minimise its eco-footprint in all aspects of performance - ranging from toner transfer and imaging technology, to emissions, paper usage and energy consumption.
Oc'e South Africa marketing manager Peter Enslin explains: “Green business is becoming good business. At Oc'e, sustainability has always been a defining principal and, today, working towards a low-carbon economy is a cornerstone of the company's approach to business, as well as a core design and business principle.”
Enslin points out that Oc'e is expanding its focus on sustainability in four key areas with the VarioPrint 6000, namely minimising incorrect and unnecessary prints, minimising energy consumption per print, maximising the reuse of materials and minimising landfill, and minimising emissions of ozone, dust, toner and noise.
“In addition, the efficient use of energy is a key concern across the document production supply chain, from the energy required to manufacture paper, to the energy required to print documents. Unique in its ability to print both sides of the page in a single pass, the Oc'e VarioPrint 6000 Ultra Line consumes an estimated 45% less energy than conventional dual-pass systems, and up to 35% less than minimum Energy Star requirements,” says Enslin. “Industry-leading energy efficiency doesn't just result in a smaller carbon footprint - it can save customers thousand of rand per year in energy costs.”
Unlike other systems, the Oc'e VarioPrint 6000 Ultra Line does not use solvents in its toner; thereby, eliminating the need for sophisticated air filters or specially ventilated work areas that other systems require. What's more, Enslin notes that a highly-sensitive Oc'e photoconductor produces a sharp and accurate latent image that delivers clearly-printed impressions, while the toner transfer fusing technology presses toner into the paper to print with near-offset quality.
“Exclusive Oc'e screen point technology produces gray scales with extremely high LPI settings, and a standard resolution of 1 200 x 600dpi, offering unrivalled halftone quality with denser blacks, sharper contrast, and the look and feel of offset continuous tone,” he explains.
Enslin points out that as true convergence printers, Oc'e VarioPrint 6000 Ultra systems are switchable in seconds from transactional to print-on-demand quality. As a result, they are ideal for a wide range of industries, environments and applications.
“The Oc'e VarioPrint 6000 range can adeptly handle everything from high-volume manuals, technical documents, books and personalised and trans-promo communications. Using one versatile platform, print shops can make better use of resources and take on more jobs,” Enslin continues.
He points out that one of the biggest challenges facing the industry today is to meet international legislation to reduce emissions, and notes that Oc'e is an industry-leader in this regard - with VarioPrint 6000 ozone emission levels falling below the threshold of human detection.
“These low levels of emissions not only exceed regulatory requirements, they are 90% lower than those of major competitors. This is possible for two reasons - the systems use excellent filters and only two coronas, compared to the four to six used in conventional systems. Together, these design features underscore the Oc'e commitment to smart technology that is sustainable too,” Enslin concludes.
