Ofcom fines Teletext

The Office of Communications (Ofcom) has imposed a penalty of £225 000 on Teletext following the shut down of the public teletext service licence, writes The Wall Street Journal.

The service has been operating at a loss of £4 million, 33% more than the year before, with its licence running until 2014.

"In accepting a licence, the broadcaster takes account of the likely cost of the obligations under the licence, and the value of the benefits associated with the licence, for the duration of the licence period," says Ofcom.

Stations in broadcast interference spat

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has received complaints regarding interference from local broadcasters, states Daily Breeze.

All-Pro Broadcasting, owner of broadcasting station KATY, claims competing station KRTH is causing continual interference by broadcasting within KATY's licensed broadcast spectrum.

All-Pro says KRTH has been unwilling to work with engineers to solve the problem, leading to the decision to file an official complaint.

French Open to be broadcast in 3D

Eurosport will receive a dedicated 3D signal from the EU satellite operator Eutelsat, writes Broadcasting & Cable.

The deal will allow live 3D coverage of the French Open tennis championship for both the men's and woman's finals.

The signals are being transmitted through Eutelsat's Hot Bird 6 satellite. As part of the sponsored Panasonic 3D experience, the signals will be beamed into outlets and displayed on Panasonic Viera VT20 3D plasma TVs.
