Printacom, vendor representative for Oki Printing Solutions in South Africa, has announced successful compliance with the International Standards Organisation`s (ISO) IEC 19752:2004 standard on toner cartridge yield in its monochrome printer range.
"In a nutshell, this move confirms that the claimed cartridge yield Oki places on its monochrome cartridges is approved and verified by ISO. This is significant since the vast majority of printer users have been grappling with calculating their true cost per page for some time now, " says Neil Rom, managing director of Printacom.
The only way to make an informed decision about what brand of printer is most effective is to include the purchase price and the consumables cost into a long term calculation which takes into account the monthly volume the printer will be required to satisfy, " Rom explains.
"This calculation is obviously flawed, particularly if it is based on false values and without a `benchmark` and, as a result, customers have to take the vendor`s word for the claimed print yield, " he says.
"With compliance to this ISO standard, all vendors are placed on an even playing field and the customer is furnished with the tools they need to accurately manage his print fleet. Compliance with this standard will no longer be elective, but an absolute must for any vendor considered a leader in the market."
"By implementing and supporting this standard, yield coverage will become comparative across the industry, dispelling confusion and creating clarity on the cost per copy calculation across a variety of printing devices, " he continues.
Rom says customers and channel partners should recognise that compliance to this new standard is a value-add and one that only a handful of print vendors have sought so far.
"Customers have a guarantee of honesty and resellers no longer have to base their specifications on previous experience and the claims of others. With this ISO standard it`s a true WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) scenario, " he concludes.
