The results of the BMI-TechKnowledge Quarterly Printer Market Tracker for the second quarter 2003 has once again revealed that Oki is continuing its steady attack on the top position in the dot matrix printer market in SA.
"Our quarter-on-quarter growth continues unabated," says Neil Rom, MD of Printacom, local Oki distributor. "The latest results demonstrate not only a narrowing of the gap between Oki, placed second, and the first-placed competitor, but for the first time Oki leads in terms of value shipped."
Oki`s market share has grown by 2% since the last quarter to 26.4%, up from 24.4% in the previous quarter. Oki`s growth remains strong in the top end of the market where units command a higher purchase price, resulting in a substantial change in the value-share standings.
"In the last quarter, Oki sped to 31.2% market share in terms of value compared to the leaders 36.4%," explains Rom. "However, in the second quarter 2003 Oki shipped R9.63 million worth of printers compared to R9.18 million shipped by the previous quarter`s leader."
The value of Oki`s sales has therefore climbed to 35% of the overall dot matrix market`s value, while the previous leader`s share of value has declined to 32.7%, a drop in value of 3.7%. "In a tough economy, those numbers are an indictment of the value Oki delivers to clients," adds Rom. "By delivering the best technology, both in terms of innovative features and stable, reliable functionality, Oki is showing steady growth at the expense of its competitors."
Oki`s range of dot matrix, monochrome and colour laser printers continue to enjoy enormous success in SA. According to the latest local BMI-T figures for Q2 2003, Oki now owns 26.4% of the total South African dot matrix market and has retained second place with 18.7% of the high-speed colour laser market.
Printacom, a member of the MB Technologies group of companies, is the sole importer and the leading value-added distributor of the Oki range of printers to the South African reseller channel.
Oki is ranked among the top three printer brands worldwide and is the only printer manufacturer that designs and develops its own components, putting Oki ahead of its competitors in terms of printing technology. Supported by the skills and services provided locally by Printacom, corporate companies are offered high-end internationally recognised business printing solutions.
