Oki steps into the MFP market

Johannesburg, 28 Jul 2005

Printacom has announced Oki`s entrance into the MFP market with a selection of products aimed at providing the SOHO, SME and corporate segments of the market all the benefits of fast, affordable colour and mono laser printing bundled with the benefits of copying, network scanning and PC faxing.

"Users in need of an A4 MFP should strongly consider the C5500 MFP range, while those in need of A3 paper handling should look at the C9800 MFP series. Both of the new product lines are built on the proven C5000 and C9800 printer models, using them as a basis for additional functionality," says Neil Rom, managing director of Printacom, local Oki Printing Solutions representative.

"The new Oki MFPs offer the benefits of increased speed and better cost-efficiency than their copier-based counterparts. They also have the ability to achieve outstanding colour, a benefit Oki has over many of the mono-only laser MFPs available today," Rom continues.

"If we look at Oki`s A4 range of solutions, the C5510 MFP provides a speed of 12 copies per minute (cpm) in colour and 20 cpm in mono, while one model up from this, the C5540 MFP delivers an even more impressive 16 cpm in colour and 24 cpm in mono," says Rom.

"These speeds are an impressive three to four times faster than comparable MFPs and in terms of running expenditure, cost no more than the C5000 printers. Furthermore, the C5500 MFPs are the only A4 single-pass MFPs available today."

As is the case with all Oki products, a great deal of effort went into the design of the C5500 series. "The intuitive operator panel lets the customer produce copies quickly and effortlessly, at the same time making the most of the powerful network scanning facility. Emailing hard-copy originals is as easy as sending emails from your PC - the operator panel gives access to email and FTP address books at the touch of a button," adds Rom.

"Bundled intelligent software enables users to file and store documents electronically, eliminating the need for filing of hard-copy documents. The use of the optical character recognition (OCR) software turns scanned images into text documents for easy editing, and the fax software enables sending of faxes from PCs without the need for a separate telephone line for the device," Rom explains.

"As if these benefits weren`t enough, the C5510 MFP has an Automatic Document Feeder, which can hold up to 50 sheets at a time. The C5540 MFP uses PCL and postscript language and there`s even the option of automatic duplex capability, facilitating the swift production of impressive double-sided documents and booklets," Rom says.

Looking beyond A4, Rom says the most compelling product today is the C9800 MFP. "Imagine the power and capability of the C9800 printer packaged with all of the other document management functions a business requires, like printer, networked scanner, fax as well as a copier, and you have the Oki C9800 A3 MFP," Rom continues.

"The C9800 MFP delivers exceptional speed and media flexibility, with professional level quality, all with single pass, LED reliability. It is great value for money, with the best price and performance in its class," he says.

"The C9800 MFP performs speeds of up to 36 colour and 40 mono printed pages or copies per minute, with either A4 or A3 paper handling capabilities. The scanning unit used in this product is also particularly impressive, with the ability to scan both sides of a document in one pass, a technology that assists in making the unit twice as swift."

"Overall, there`s a strong indication from analysts that an increasing number of businesses are looking at MFPs based on proven laser technology, rather than buying traditional copiers and the likes," Rom says.

"We believe we have a winning recipe with our MFP range that is very competitively priced and offers a speed advantage over the competition, whilst at the same time bringing a host of features the market would not normally expect but nonetheless needs."
