OKI Technologies gains market share OKI strengthens hold in corporate arena

Johannesburg, 03 May 1999

According to the latest BMI TechKnowledge (BMI-T) South African Annual Desktop Printer report (March 1999), OKI Technologies has increased its market share in the dot matrix printer segment by 7.0%. Loretta Pein, research analyst at BMI TechKnowledge, says, " Due to OKI`s channel structure and strong emphasis on VARs, the company has been able to increase its market share in this declining market over the past several quarters." The report firmly positions dot matrix printers in the corporate arena, particularly in the retail and banking environments, where users demand high reliability and competitive pricing.

Pein adds, "OKI`s globally respected technology brand, backed by accessible customer information networks and technical support, has enabled the brand to constantly increase its share position, specifically within the corporate and small to medium enterprises."

In the faster speed printer segment (9-pin, 350 cps or more) OKI Technologies leads the market with 64.5%. Neil Rom, MD of OKI South Africa, says, "Although the total dot matrix printer market is declining, corporate users are increasingly demanding higher speeds, which is where OKI focus their models."
