In order to satisfy a requirement for NT storage with the potential to provide mainframe-like disaster recovery functionality, Old Mutual, has selected an EMC Symmetrix solution.
Colin Walker, team leader for storage management at Old Mutual, says a request for proposal (RFP) was sent out to the IT industry in March this year. "It specified a requirement for 600GB of RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) protected storage with remote mirroring and management functionality as well as Fibre Channel connectivity."
Walker received proposals from several vendors. "The decision was based on proven functionality and pricing," he comments.
Dave Vlok, account manager at EMC SA, says the subsystems will be managed by EMC`s Open Symmetrix Manager which runs on any Windows workstation. "This software provides a GUI interface enabling systems administrators to monitor the status and performance of each Symmetrix subsystem - all the way down to individual hard disk assembly level."
