Onmark 2000 quick off the mark at SA corporates

Johannesburg, 18 Mar 1999

The ViaSoftOnMark 2000 Assess tool for addressing Y2K challenges in the PC desktop and client server environments has added big name corporates to its list of clients since being introduced locally by USKO Software late last year.

The product forms part of ViaSoft`s end-to-end solution suite for desktop Y2K challenges, and is in operation at, among others, the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), Minolco, Pioneer Foods, Real Africa Durolink (RAD), South African Airways (SAA), and Swiss Re-Insurance. Some 15 000 licenses were also recently been installed at one of SA`s leading financial institutions.

Graeme Allcock, client/server sales manager at USKO Software`s Systems Solutions Division and under whom the product falls, says its ease-of-use and ability to diagnose data problems in any data file in any application, from word-processing to complex databases, has been particularly well-received.

"It also boasts superior network functionality, a modular design for add-ons and upgrades, and a superb international track record and reference sites," he says.

The DBSA certainly agreed, and selected OnMark 2000 Assess to scan and correct data, including 20 000 production sheets, and help ensure that all DBSA systems continue to function efficiently throughout the Y2K period. At Minolco, southern African distributor of Minolta and Oce office equipment, the product was selected for its reputation as a superior auditing tool for problem checking and analysis, and its detailed reporting on where activities can be actioned.

OnMark`s reputation for alleviating the time-consuming challenge of checking data files across company networks swayed Pioneer Foods to install the product, where it will remain well beyond 2000. Similarly, OnMark 2000 Assess will run in the background on all PCs until 2001 at RAD, where its ease-of-use and timesaving ability to quickly pinpoint files and applications that require modification ahead of Y2K was a deciding factor.

The SAA contract sees the airline embark on a massive worldwide desktop Y2K compliance project, with every PC and server linked to SAA`s network - here, abroad, and at all travel agents which access the Galileo reservation system - scanned three times before its September deadline.

Finally, international reinsurance giant, Swiss Re, has selected OnMark 2000 Assess for almost all of its 70 branches globally - including those in SA. The solution is being implemented as part of a strict Y2K alignment project being coordinated from Switzerland.
