Ooma unveils HD phone service

Voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) company, Ooma has rolled out a wireless adapter, and has expanded its services to home phone systems, reports Telecom Paper.

With the Ooma Telo Air wireless adapter, the Ooma Telo can now be placed anywhere in the home, within range of a WiFi network.

By adding Bluetooth to the Ooma Telo, customers are able to answer mobile calls on any home phone, without being plagued by poor reception or dropped calls, according to Enterprise Communications.

In addition, Ooma offers the Ooma Mobile HD app for Android and Apple mobile devices, so customers can save money on domestic and international calls by tapping their Ooma account on the go via any WiFi or 3G network.

In a TMCnet report, Ooma's vice-president of product management, Dennis Peng, reveals that by attaching the wireless adapter to the Telo device, users can make free HD phone calls from anywhere within the range of their home networks, rather than being tied to their modems.

Peng believes consumer demand for HD voice will soon make it a necessary offering for service providers, just like HDTV is now.
