The Open Group has established a forum that will oversee the development of the ArchiMate standard as a global enterprise description language. The language was initially developed by the Dutch Telematica Institute, the ArchiMate Foundation and a large consortium, in 2002.
"We are in the process of standardising and internationally adopting ArchiMate 1.0 as a global standard," says forum chairman Henry Franken.
ArchiMate is an open modelling language for enterprise architecture, and is supported by different tool vendors and consulting firms, according to an Open Group statement. The language also provides instruments to support enterprise architects in describing, analysing and visualising the relationships among business domains.
"I am delighted to welcome ArchiMate to the Open Group and look forward to bringing it closer to other industry standards," adds Open Group CEO Allen Brown.
ArchiMate is an ideal candidate to deliver the Open Group's standard, Togaf, because it incorporates service paradigm and has implementation relationships to business process modelling notation and universal modelling language, the statement says.
