Lava Systems Africa, an affinity partner of Canadian-based Open Text, and one of the companies within the Enterprise Content & Wireless (ECW) Group, today announced that Open Text is among the first of the major ECM solutions providers to join SAP AG`s new Enterprise Services (ES) Community, a major industry initiative recently launched by SAP.
The ES Community is composed of technology companies and customers dedicated to defining enterprise services that make it easier for companies to combine software capabilities, and to create and deploy applications that solve complex business problems.
The ES Community facilitates the adoption of the enterprise services architecture (ESA), SAP`s blueprint for a business process-driven approach to service-oriented architecture (SOA). Enterprise services provide the common business language enabling software applications and infrastructure products running on disparate systems to communicate within ESA.
The ES Community gives technology vendors and customers an open forum to collaborate on the creation and use of enterprise services and helps guarantee the utilisation quality of enterprise services through a certification programme. Community members can join a variety of definition and advisory groups to identify specific business challenges facing companies today and define enterprise services and best practices needed to address those business requirements.
"The Enterprise Services Community offers a unique forum bringing together partners with customers to share ideas and influence the development of enterprise services; all aimed at helping companies achieve business profitability," commented Zia Yusuf, Executive Vice-President for SAP`s Platform Ecosystem. "As a charter member and a contributor to the ES Community, Open Text will play a key role in helping to define enterprise services that bridge the worlds of structured and unstructured data."
"SAP is taking an important leadership role in the industry by defining Enterprise Services that support all of the business processes used by most of the world`s companies," added Kirk Roberts, Executive Vice-President, Products, Solutions & Marketing at Open Text. "Open Text has a unique perspective, based on years of delivering solutions that enable large companies to manage their information in a compliant manner. We welcome this opportunity to bring together our joint customers and our system integrator and storage partners to help SAP define Enterprise Services for ECM."
Open Text offers a complete suite of ECM capabilities that enhance SAP solutions. Open Text`s Livelink ECM Suite for SAP Solutions helps customers manage content from SAP systems to improve efficiency in key processes, manage compliance and reduce IT costs. The suite includes ECM solutions for accounts payable and receivable processing, customer information management, employee document management and contract management; solutions that help companies create secure, long-term archiving of SAP content to address complex process requirements and compliance mandates; and solutions for consolidating and archiving content from multiple SAP and/or legacy systems.

ECW is the merged entity of Lava Systems Africa and Lava Systems Mobile (LSM).
The Lava Systems Africa (LSA) team originated in the late 1990s with the objective of becoming a premier supplier of enterprise systems based around knowledge management, document management, records management, image management, collaboration and workflow solutions. The emerging demands that were identified included government process re-engineering, supply chain co-ordination, customer relationship management, e-government and B2B processing.
In support of these business aims, the technology platforms chosen had to enjoy a proven global track record and adhere to open Internet architecture standards and developments.
LSA is a South African-based company dedicated to the sales, marketing, support and consultancy founded upon the Livelink product suite from Open Text, a product that the staff have been involved with since 1998. LSA`s user base embraces customers from both the private and public sector and includes organisations such as Bateman Projects Limited, Alexander Forbes, the Gauteng Provincial Government and the National Social Security Fund of Uganda.
Lava Systems Mobile, a company focusing on the development of mobile applications and tools, was originally created in 2005 and later that year absorbed KeyTools, a well-established mobile applications software developer with international links.
