Oracle Corp today announced that SAP will adopt, distribute and support Oracle9i Database with Real Application Clusters (Oracle9i RAC). SAP will resell and distribute Oracle9i RAC and the two companies will provide support to joint customers through their respective support organizations. Pilot projects have already started with mutually agreed customers. SAP solutions on Oracle9i RAC will be available for SAP customers on HP AlphaServer systems running Tru64 Unix within six months.
Oracle also today announced that SAP has certified a series of Oracle9i RAC-based SAP Sales and Distribution (SAP SD) Parallel Standard Application benchmarks (*) that set new scalability and throughput records on HP servers. Near linear scalability was achieved using SAP R/3, Release 4.6C and Oracle9i RAC running the parallel Sales and Distribution workload on a four-node clustered HP AlphaServer ES45 system using TruCluster Server software with 4 processors per system.
Oracle9i RAC is the highly scalable and reliable database cluster for mission critical SAP solutions. It also provides a basis for server consolidation and for Multiple Components of SAP solutions in One Database (MCOD) installation option.
The benchmark result demonstrates the feasibility of on-demand capacity planning and flexible deployment of SAP R/3 using Oracle9i RAC. Performance increased by a factor of 1.8 when going from a one-node configuration to two-node configuration, and by a factor of 1.8 going from a two to four-node configuration.
"Over two-thirds of SAP`s customers run their applications on Oracle," said Charles Rozwat, executive vice president of Server Technologies, Oracle Corp. "Now with SAP`s endorsement and certification of Oracle9i RAC, we are extending a successful reseller and support relationship for an additional three years that will help thousands of customers achieve lower costs, higher scalability and improved reliability."
