Oracle databases get Mirror Activator

Mirror Activator, a business solution, is available for Oracle database environments. It enables organisations to reduce failover time, and restore availability with no data loss in the event of a system failure, according to a press release.

Mirror Activator allows access to remote data. The solution works in conjunction with recovery software like EMC Symmetrix Remote Data Facility, which replicates data to remote locations using either synchronous or asynchronous modes of operation.

Zmanda ups data recovery offering

Zmanda, provider of business-ready open source software for corporate data protection, has a new offering: the Zmanda Network with the Amanda Enterprise Edition software, according to News Forge.

The Zmanda Network is a suite of enterprise-ready software and services based on the popular Amanda open source data backup and recovery technology.

Now in all major Linux distributions, there are estimated to be more than 20 000 deployments of Amanda worldwide. Amanda can handle large, complex environments and smaller IT environments.

Avaya develops mobile emergency solution

Avaya is responding to a call for rapid deployment communications systems and use of multiple, flexible technologies in mobile infrastructure, by the US Federal Communications Commission, according to a release.

The company developed a mobile communication system (MCS) with self-contained communications units specifically designed for use in mobile or temporary locations.

The Avaya MCS enables businesses and public sector organisations to quickly set up command centres with complete, secure voice and data communications to support business continuity, disaster response and recovery.
