The ThinkQuest Narrative Competition 2009, a new educational competition sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation (OEF), is now open to teams of students, ages nine to 19.
The competition is designed to engage students in developing important 21st century skills, such as communication, creativity, teamwork and technology skills.
Teams are invited to use OEF's ThinkQuest Projects platform to publish their ideas on topics of global importance, ranging from world hunger to environmental issues.
ThinkQuest Projects is a project environment where teachers and students engage in collaborative learning. It is a protected, teacher-mediated environment where learning takes place with no advertising.
Teams have four months to create their entries, which are due on 4 May 2009. The judging panel will be comprised of professional educators from around the world.
Qualifying entries will be published in the ThinkQuest Library, the world's largest online repository of student-developed learning projects.
Prizes include laptop computers, school grants, and a trip to an awards event in the San Francisco Bay Area, depending on placement.
“We are delighted to provide an opportunity for students to voice their opinions on globally relevant topics and develop 21st century skills at the same time. We hope that the ThinkQuest Narrative Competition will be a powerful learning experience for them,” said Clare Dolan, Vice-President, Oracle Corporate Citizenship.
“The teachers in my school have found ThinkQuest Projects to be one of the most engaging and empowering platforms they have ever used with students,” said Jeanne Paulus, Learning Coordinator for Roosevelt Elementary School in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. “We look forward to participating in the ThinkQuest Narrative Competition.”
