Oracle Corporation has teamed with Hewlett-Packard to develop and market a range of the most sophisticated High Availability solutions for emerging mission critical e-business applications.
The initiative is it at the core of Oracle`s E-Business Continuity Programme designed to help any company, no matter what its size, meet the availability challenges posed by the rapid rise of e-business.
The Programme, poised for launch in South Africa, enables companies to rapidly deploy "always-on" technology for their most visible and essential business processes, wherever these processes may reside.
It is geared to assist companies to create highly available call centres, supply chains and Web storefronts based on Oracle`s e-business software and Hewlett-Packard`s server platforms and e-services offering.
"Oracle is partnering with Hewlett-Packard, one of the industry`s leading hardware, data storage and network management companies, because highly available solutions depend on predictable operations across both hardware and software platforms," says Oracle`s product manager (Technology Solutions Group) Chris Bosch.
"As the Internet increasingly becomes part of mainstream culture, Web site downtime takes on a new significance. System failures can quickly result in a tarnished reputation and permanent loss of revenue, so a successful e-business must have a high availability strategy in place to ensure business continuity on a 24 X 7 basis," he says.
According to Oracle, the programme is the first to bring together new software developments, experienced professional services and a key partnership with Hewlett-Packard in a targeted effort to eliminate costly downtime, while increasing revenue opportunities and customer loyalty.
"Both Hewlett-Packard and Oracle are in a strong position to be leading providers of applications and hardware to meet the stringent up-time requirements of the emerging e-business and e-commerce communities," says Nicolas Leblanc, Oracle Alliance & Solutions sales manager at HP Enterprise Computing Solutions (ECS) South Africa.
"HP and Oracle are the first to extend high availability across the Oracle Internet Platform, beyond the database server to the middle tier.
"This high availability solution is critical to the success of a new generation of Internet applications, such as online exchanges and hosted applications from Application Service Providers," he says.
Central to the Oracle`s E-Business Continuity Programme are several new high availability technologies and solutions. These include Oracle Parallel Fail Safe, a High Availability configuration with rapid failover to eliminate downtime. This Oracle solution is at this stage exclusive to HP servers. Oracle Parallel Fail Safe recovers Web sites in 30 seconds or less.
Additionally, Oracle and HP are simplifying high availability by offering a pre-installed, pre-configured software/hardware solution along with targeted professional services to speed implementation.
