Oracle University SA has launched its learning management system, iLearning, a key element of Oracle`s e-Business suite in SA.
iLearning is designed to leverage Web technology to deliver cost-effective online education to students from all sectors of the population, in rural or urban communities, on a continuous basis.
Wynand Du Plessis, director of Oracle University, says iLearning has had a long gestation period, being used by Oracle as its own in-house online learning platform for the past two years.
"Since December last year more than 187 000 students associated with Oracle around the world, have used iLearning in training," he says. "In total 24 000 users are currently deployed on iLearning around the globe."
Locally, iLearning strongly positions Oracle in an industry that is expected to experience rapid growth.
Du Plessis says it allows companies to train more rapidly and at a much lower cost. He maintains that it could be effectively employed in both the public and the private sectors as an online learning management system.
Features include self-guided registration, catalogue search facilities, approval based enrolment, personal learning calendar, collaboration assessments, workflow notifications and prescriptive learning.
iLearning also includes the integration of Oracle`s Training Administration system as well as resource management features such as classroom and instructor resource managements, conflict management, scheduling, enrolment management and waitlist management.
"Oracle`s iLearning is a fully hosted solution and takes fewer than 15 days to install," says Du Plessis. It is supplied with a host of deployment options.
Oracle will provide remote systems management services to iLearning customers, including application product support, functional implementation, application and database management.
