Oracle Corporation has announced the Oracle Transportation Exchange, the latest collaborative business-to-business (B2B) application of the Oracle E-Business Suite.
To be released in the second quarter of this year, Oracle Transportation Exchange will help companies that distribute goods (shippers) and transportation providers to better communicate, collaborate and plan their transportation requirements.
By moving business operations to an online, collaborative model, shippers and transportation providers can significantly reduce delivery lead times and respond quickly to changing market conditions.
Oracle Transportation Exchange is fully integrated with Oracle Exchange Marketplace, Oracle Supply Chain Exchange, and Oracle Product Development Exchange, providing a complete suite of collaborative B2B applications.
The Oracle Product Development Exchange, puts all areas area of collaborative product development online and makes them accessible to groups inside and outside a company`s firewall.
This means marketing projections, 3-D CAD designs and vendor pricing information are housed in a single database and available to various partners at the click of a mouse.
"For many companies, transportation costs run on average 6% of revenue, making up the largest part of logistics expenses," says Yvette Whitehead, Exchange product manger at Oracle SA. "Today, most logistics activities between a shipper and transportation provider are handled manually - via phone, paper or fax.
"Oracle Transportation Exchange will help South African shippers and transportation providers to manage the buying of logistics - contract or spot - across all modes of transportation," Whitehead adds.
