Oracle Corporation has announced two separate test report and survey findings comparing the performance and total cost of ownership (TCO) of the Oracle9i Database with the Microsoft SQL Server.
The subject of the tests and survey was the Oracle9i Database Enterprise Edition, Release 2, running on a single IBM eServer pSeries 690 system with 32 processors and AIX 5L V5.2 operating system.
When pitted against the TPC-C - an online transaction processing (OLTP) benchmark developed by the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) - Oracle`s database server outperformed the Microsoft SQL Server`s best single server result on 32 processors by 24%.
The TPC-C benchmark defines a rigorous standard for calculating performance and price/performance measured by transaction per minute (tpmC) and cost per tpmC, respectively.
Oracle`s 9i Database achieved an impressive 427 760.83 transactions per minute (tpmC) and $17.75/tpmC.
IBM DB2 UDB has yet to publish a single-system TPC-C result on Unix, Windows or Linux.
