Oracle unveils Enterprise Manager 11g

Oracle has introduced a system management software platform called Enterprise Manager 11g, reports PC World.

The product is key to Oracle's goal of being a true one-stop IT shop for customers, now that it has entered the hardware business by acquiring Sun Microsystems.

"It's about trying to finally get control of this complex thing called IT. We're just getting to the point in the industry and in Oracle's strategy where that's now possible," says Oracle president Charles Phillips.

Adobe ditches Flash for iPhone

Adobe principal product manager Mike Chambers says Adobe is no longer investing in iPhone-based Flash development, writes PC Mag.

The move comes after Apple put out a new draft of its iPhone developer program licence, which banned private APIs and required apps to be written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine.

"Essentially, this has the effect of restricting applications built with a number of technologies, including Unity, Titanium, MonoTouch, and Flash CS5," says Chamber. "While it appears that Apple may selectively enforce the terms, it is our belief that Apple will enforce those terms as they apply to content created with Flash CS5."

Opera releases desktop mobile emulator

Opera Software is "making mobile Web testing even easier" with the release of an emulator for testing the Opera browser on Web sites from Windows, Linux and Mac desktop computers, states eWeek.

With the Opera Mobile Emulator, "Developers can now install a full version of Opera Mobile, as well as the Opera Widgets Mobile Emulator, and test Web sites from the comfort of their desktop computers," the company says.

Andreas Bovens, group leader for developer relations at Opera, says: "A bit more than a month after the release of Opera Mobile 10 for Windows Mobile and Symbian smartphones, we are happy to announce a special developer version of Opera Mobile 10 for Windows, Mac and Linux."
