Oracle VM server challenges VMware

InformationWeek.

The company says the software is four times as scalable as VMware's. Its customer base so far appears reluctant to make Oracle its primary virtualisation provider.

Oracle claims to provide full stack support for virtualisation from application to disk, and for cloud computing needs, writes Virtualisation Review.

Version 3.0, which is available via a free download and has no licence cost, is targeted at centre workloads and includes new, policy-based management capabilities, advanced storage management via the VM Storage Connect plug-in API and other features.

According to Network Computing, VM 3.0 is a big step forward for Oracle, but it really only brings VM closer to alternatives like VMware and Hyper-V.

Oracle still has a challenge competing against them, both in terms of market presence against VMware and ease of use with Microsoft's Hyper-V.

Any competitor to VMware has to include to support and augment their virtualisation platform.
