Orion Telecom has launched its "Orion Remote SMS" bureau service which enables business to enjoy a bulk SMS service without having any hardware or software at all on their premises. The service has been introduced in response to some of Orion`s clients` need to send high volume SMSs in a short period of time, but who don`t want to install capacity for this themselves.
The service simply requires the client to prepare a list in either Microsoft Excel or CSV (comma separated variable) file format, e-mail it to Orion which then sends out the broadcast and returns an end of broadcast report the following day.
According to Charles Roberts, Orion Marketing Manager: "The service is very simple for the client and our reporting back to them in an electronic format, enables them to analyse the results and feed them back into their servers for record keeping, changes etc.
"The concept is very simple and for our clients, it`s a no-hassle service that simply works," he added. "The trick, however, is the bulk delivery engine which is based on our newly upgraded Uniserver SMS which is a high-speed, fully functional bulk file processor that gets the messages out quickly, receives replies and network statuses and delivers comprehensive reports back to the client."
Clients only pay for delivered SMSs with a sliding scale discount applied depending on the total volume sent in the month. Thus the greater the volume, the lower the cost per SMS.
Orion provides a range of telecommunications services to top South African companies and has a strategic R&D programme for the development of new initiatives. These will be released in a series of technology breakfasts to be held during 2003.
