Outlook for Mac replaces Entourage

Microsoft will replace Entourage with Outlook for Mac in its next version of Microsoft Office for Mac, reports eWeek.

As an intermediate step, Microsoft has released Microsoft Entourage 2008 for Mac, Web Services Edition, which provides new syncing capabilities while setting the stage for porting users to Outlook.

The new Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Business Edition will supplement the Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Home and Student Editions.

eBay for iPhone gets notifications

An update to eBay's free iPhone application (App Store link) enables users to better keep an eye on items they're interested in buying, states CNET News.

Users can now opt to receive push notifications for when they've been outbid, or when an auction they're watching is close to ending.

As soon as a watched item enters that threshold, the user gets a message that both them and gives them a quick option to jump back to the item to make an increased bid.

London Stock Exchange seeks new platform

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) is nearing a decision to pick a new and faster trading software platform, according to its chief executive, says Computing.co.uk.

The current £40 million (R534 million) TradElect trading engine was installed by Accenture in 2007. But in an interview with Dow Jones Newswires, Xavier Rolet said the company has been looking at a number of new technologies around the world.

"We want to go a lot faster," he said. "We have 2.7 milliseconds [transaction time] at the moment. The goal is to increase speed to sub-millisecond for sure, and have the ability to go even below that afterwards."
