Overland REO 4000 backup appliance now in SA

Johannesburg, 04 May 2004

South African distributor, Channel Data has introduced Overland Storage`s REO 4000, the company`s latest addition to its family of disk-based backup and recovery appliances, to local companies.

The REO 4000 replaces Overland`s REO 2000 series and continues to drive the company`s high-performance backup and recovery offerings to the marketplace.

"With the ever increasing drive towards disk-to-disk-tape (D2D2T) backup, Overland`s REO 4000 series is optimised for tape libraries, addressing key issues such as reduced backup windows, meeting recovery time objectives, improving reliability and reducing operational and management costs," comments Kevin Falconer, storage products manager at Channel Data.

The appliance addresses a variety of capacity requirements, starting from as little as 2 Terabytes native capacity and seamlessly expanding to 8 Terabytes, thus enabling the REO 400 to comfortably integrate with storage environments.

The REO 4000 also allows companies to address two markets in terms of connectivity, the rapidly-growing iSCSI market and the well-established fibre channel market, offering interfaces for both as well as providing the best combination of features and pricing.

The REO 4000 is designed to address the needs of companies who want to:

* Add disk to their backup scheme;
* Redefine the role of tape in their backup process;
* Increase the speed of backups and restores;
* Implement longer-distance disaster recovery solutions; and
* Implement lower-cost SAN backup/restore.
