IT Wise, the Sub-Saharan distributor for Packeteer, today announced the introduction of PacketShaper models based on an updated hardware platform design that provides increased processor and memory scalability to accommodate future features and functional enhancements.
The new PacketShapers are the first to comply with the European Union (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive that is a requirement for all companies selling products within or into the EU. The RoHS directive, designed to provide environmental safeguards eliminating the use of toxic materials, applies to electrical and electronic products and their component parts offered for sale in the EU after 1 July 2006.
The new PacketShapers include the 1700, 3500, 7500 and 7500/ISP models, all of which provide the same functionality as their predecessors at similar price points but with more processing and memory `headroom`. Each new PacketShaper is fully compatible with current models, can be installed on the same networks and managed using Packeteer`s PolicyCenter and ReportCenter centralised management tools. All new PacketShapers will be carried through Packeteer`s distribution and reseller channels worldwide.
"Our new PacketShapers provide existing and new customers with more scaleable systems to support network growth and enhance their return on investment," commented David Puglia, Packeteer`s vice-president of marketing. "We`re complying with the RoHS directive that we believe will be adopted by other geographies worldwide. The new models also have a simplified SKU and numbering structure to make it easier for our channel partners to sell more flexible options to their installed customer base as well as reach new prospects with a more streamlined set of new Packeteer solutions."
