Palmtop computing aficionados have a new handheld computer to purvey, with the launch of Palm`s new m105.
[VIDEO]Available as of yesterday, the Palm m105 is an extension to the Palm m100 handheld, but with the additional functionality of Internet connection software, and extra memory for additional applications and data.
The m105 is expected to retail at about R1 999, and comes with a cradle, connectivity software allowing Internet and e-mail access through GSM mobile phones, and a detachable faceplate. Palm has introduced 14 different faceplates, in colours like Blue Boa and Burl Wood.
The new device is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, and following on Palm`s expansion into the European market, will be available in English, French, Italian, Spanish, German and Japanese. Non-English units will be available in mid-March, the company says.
Sean Heyes, country manager, Palm SA, says the m100 proved unexpectedly popular with women and younger buyers when it was first introduced, tapping into markets beyond Palm`s traditional mobile professional customer base.
[VIDEO]"The m100 was the fastest-selling product in Palm`s history, and our research indicated m100 handheld owners are extremely happy with their purchases. The m105 builds on that foundation, and lets customers stay up-to-date with news, e-mail and more than 550 available Web clipping applications."
The Palm m105 can also accommodate add-on accessories such as the Kodak PalmPix camera, the Palm Portable Keyboard and the Northstar Mobile snap-on data protector, MemorySafe.
