Computer Associates International, Inc (CA), today announced that the Control Systems Division - Commercial of Parker Hannifin Corporation`s Aerospace Group, has standardised on CA`s BrightStor Enterprise Backup (BrightStor EB) and BrightStor Storage Resource Management (BrightStor SRM) to ensure that business-critical information is always accessible and to minimise network downtime in case of disaster.
Implemented by CA Services in just three weeks, the BrightStor technology provided the division with a smooth upgrade path from CA`s BrightStor ARCserve Backup, a departmental backup solution that Parker Hannifin used for several years until recently growing to 35 Windows NT and AIX servers.
Using BrightStor EB, the Control Systems Division has added significant power and scalability to its backup process. The BrightStor solution also requires just one hour of IT supervision per week, a cost-savings benefit contributing to the solution`s outstanding ROI. In addition, BrightStor SRM enables the division`s IT staff to maximise existing storage space and proactively plan for future growth.
"CA delivered a fast, reliable backup solution that ensures that our users always have access to their vital data, while freeing our IT staff to focus on other strategic projects," said Mike Otto, IT Manager for Parker Hannifin Corporation, Control Systems - Commercial.
Parker Hannifin chose the BrightStor solutions for their ease of use, scalability and CA Services` support following a rigorous three-month evaluation of several vendors` products, including Veritas and LiveVault. In addition to providing online and telephone access to developers, CA Services sent a data recovery expert to the division`s offices in Ogden, Utah, to ensure a successful deployment.
BrightStor EB provides complete backups of 1.75 terabytes of data each week. The disaster recovery capabilities of BrightStor EB allow the division`s IT staff to restore applications in 90 minutes or less in test scenarios, promising minimal network application downtime in an actual disaster. BrightStor SRM further enhances the division`s ability to monitor its data storage and predict future growth via an easy-to-understand graphic interface showing all available storage resources at a single desktop.
With ample capacity for future growth, the integrated BrightStor solutions ensure that business-critical information is always accessible and minimize network downtime in case of disaster. The division can also monitor its data storage use for more effective use of resources and more accurate future planning - resulting in significant IT cost savings.
"Companies like Parker Hannifin want to make sure that their data is protected against any possible contingency, but they also have to keep their IT costs under rigorous control," said Gary McGuire, CA`s senior vice president of BrightStor solutions. "CA`s BrightStor solutions effectively fulfil these two essential requirements, making them ideal building blocks for any corporate business continuity strategy."
