Partnership promotes e-records
The Quantum Group is collaborating with IBM for a patient-centred medical home (PCMH) solution that provides physicians with electronic records integration, says Trading Markets.
The companies claim the EMR-enabled primary care practices will meet US president Barrack Obama's vision of an information-based, connected healthcare system.
Noel Guillama, Quantum president and CEO says: "The medical home market is estimated to be a multi-billion dollar opportunity, not including but supported by the $19 billion federal stimulus package for healthcare reform. We believe, based on current projections, that we will have our first group of more than 400 physicians on PWeR (personal wellness electronic record) in the third quarter of this year."
Intel, GE drive healthcare technology
US computer chip maker Intel and industrial giant General Electric (GE) are to team up in home health technology, a sector expected to see rapid growth in coming years, reports Google News.
Intel and GE are investing $250 million over the next five years in research and development of home-based health technologies.
The companies claim the alliance is based on developing products that would help seniors live independently and patients with chronic conditions manage their care from home or elsewhere.
University creates virtual clean room
Purdue University in India has developed a computer-generated, 3D immersive environment to assist in training pharmaceutical students, says Lafayette Online.
Pharmacy clean rooms are sterile environments where pharmacists and pharmacy technicians prepare materials that need to be guaranteed contamination-free. Generally found in hospitals and home healthcare companies, the rooms are used to prepare drugs, intravenous drips, syringes and chemotherapy treatments.
The simulator runs at the Envision Centre and has 3D glasses and wireless controllers allowing users to navigate and manipulate objects.
