Paying and Viewing Traffic Fines over the Internet - George is SA`s First!

The George Traffic Department is excited to announce that it is the first traffic department in South Africa that allows the public to view and pay traffic camera fines over the internet. "We want to make it easy for the public to keep to the rules of the road and obey the law." said George`s Chief Traffic Officer Mr Jan Nel, "We have an enormous problem with offenders from out of town who are reluctant to pay by post. This system will be especially useful because people can see evidence of the offence and pay the fine at the same time."

The system is a result of close cooperation between the George Traffic Department, Labat Traffic Solutions Pty Ltd and First National Bank. Web payment is the latest in a series of road safety initiatives in George. There were a further three traffic cameras installed this month. And the StarRanger, a state of the art license plate recognition system is actively patrolling ready to alert the officers if any cars have any outstanding fines or warrants of arrest.
