SchoolNet SA, iSolve Learning Solutions and Microsoft SA have joined forces in a project to offer basic PC training to female teachers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
The project coincides with the nation-wide 16 Days of Activism campaign and will provide the teachers with skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and the Internet, says Nomty Gcaba of SchoolNet SA, who is facilitating the course.
The teachers, from Gauteng schools, have never before used a computer. The training will run for two days, on Friday 2 December and Saturday 3 December, at iSolve Learning Solutions' training facilities in Sunninghill, Johannesburg.
"For most of them, it is the first opportunity to get to a computer and learn. They will also take this information back to the learners and other educators so we are confident that they will pass on the knowledge to others," says Gcaba.
This initiative is part of the commitment made by Microsoft SA through the Partners in Learning memorandum of understanding that was signed with the National Ministry of Education on 31 March.
The focus of the programme is to assist government in achieving its vision for ICT in education.
