Barcode and mobile company Harmonic Group has released the Microflex 2240 PDA in SA.

The device is waterproof, rugged and shock-resistant, and designed for use outdoors and on-site, says the company.

"Our target is government readers, and people working in maintenance, construction, geological and public safety tasks," says Harmonic`s MD, Barry Baetu.

He believes there is a big market for the new device and expects sales of around R20 million a year in SA.

The Microflex 2240 is rated IP67 and meets all MIL-STD-810F standards, says Harmonic. It is equipped with Windows 2003 that can be upgraded.

It has a battery life of 15 hours and is built to withstand extreme temperatures. Harmonic is the sole distributor of the product, which retails for around R12 000.
