PDC acquires StarPOS

Johannesburg, 22 Nov 2011

The Print Distribution Company (PDC) has recently bought Centurion-based StarPOS SA, known for its range of Star Micronics point of sale printers and J2 touch screens.

As part of the PDC Group, StarPOS will now have the ability to distribute its products through PDC's distribution centres throughout southern Africa. The comprehensive product basket is used extensively in the retail and hospitality industries, along with applications such as parkades, toll booths and Lotto kiosks.

“The reason for the acquisition is to broaden our footprint,” says StarPOS MD, Ernie Boardman. “We've been in Centurion since our inception 11 years ago. We realised that in order to grow our business, the best option was to find a vehicle to expand our current offering, with servicing facilities and branches nationwide. PDC is ideal because, in addition to being a print specialist, they're also in the distribution business.”

Rodney Bartman, CEO of PDC, concurs, saying: “We anticipate great synergy between the two companies. The StarPOS range enhances what PDC has to offer, while PDC's branches provide immediate growth opportunities for StarPOS, enabling their distribution nationwide. Our companies have a long work history together, so this was an easy decision to make.”

Ernie echoes his enthusiasm. “I'm very happy it has gone this way, and I believe it gives confidence to the channel that roll-out has been so fast and smooth.”
