Penguin Books reveals iPad publishing plans

Penguin Books has been showing off some ideas of how it sees the iPad fitting in with its plans for electronic publishing, writes Mobile Computer Mag.

CEO John Makinson says: “The iPad represents the first real opportunity to create a paid distribution model that will be attractive to consumers. The psychology of payment on a tablet is different to the psychology on a PC.”

The demos show examples of various children's books in action on the iPad, though these look more like interactive educational apps than mere digital versions of its paper titles.

Tech-savvy teachers are the way to go for the new generation of schools. And there is now a centre for educators from Asia to hone their skills and develop their innovative ideas, reports Channel NewsAsia.

Based in Singapore, the School Technology Innovation Centre is a first such institution in the region.

For example, teachers from Australia and Canada learn how to use a touchscreen computer to make dense formulas look interesting and easy to digest, as they find out how a physics lesson of the future might look like. And this is just one of the visions that the new centre hopes to realise across the Asia-Pacific region.

Indiana residents can take advantage of free online job training through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development until late June, states Fox59.

More than 750 courses in subjects such as desktop computing, project management, human resources and communication skills are available.

Governmental and non-profit organisations can sign up for multiple licences to benefit their employees.
