Pentax makes digital SLR affordable
The Pentax *ist DL looks set to become the most affordable digital SLR in the digital imaging market. The Pentax Imaging Company has declared a drastic change in price to the *ist DL digital SLR camera with 18-55 DA lens kit.
The price reduction from $799.95 (about R4 970) to $599.95 (R3 734) took effect on 1 February, reports Digital Photography Reviews.
The digital SLR market has seen a recent rise in popularity, and cost-effective cameras such as the Pentax *ist provide digital imaging solutions to film SLR users switching to digital, as well as amateur digital photographers looking to upgrade.
Carl Koch dies
Carl Koch, inventor of the modular Sinar camera system, died at the age of 89, reports Shutterbug. This Swiss photographer and inventor pioneered the revolutionary Sinar camera in 1948. Koch`s primary motivation was to offer professional photographers the latest technical refinements.
Koch was also concerned with educating photographers, and released a series of textbooks and guidelines for professional photography, including "Photo Know How", a self-teaching course for professional photographers. The world of professional photography mourns the passing of one of its great pioneers.
Sony releases 8GB MicroVault Pro
Sony Europe announced the 8GB model in its MicroVault Pro range, following in the footsteps of the 5GB model.
DCviews reports the one-inch hard disk drive features protection by a newly designed metal casing which, complete with the unique USB swivel connector, is able to plug straight into a computer USB port.
The business-card sized MicroVault Pro offers compact, secure and easily portable storage solutions, the report claims. The device also comes pre-loaded with Sony`s Auto Sync file synchronisation to ensure high quality storage capacity.
