PeopleSoft launched version 8 of its product range in Sandton yesterday. The new suite is Web-based for complete e-business integration and ready access to business information from anywhere.
[VIDEO]"The PeopleSoft 8 range has been completely reworked for the Internet and delivers easy access and open integration, as well as cost and management savings, advantageous to anybody in today`s e-business market," said Jan Coetzee, MD of PeopleSoft SA.
The company`s local customer base includes the South African Revenue Services and other government departments, as well as many major banks, which use the PeopleSoft human resources module.
The focus of version 8 is on seamlessly e-business-enabling the supply chain, an approach that PeopleSoft believes offers more benefit to mainline businesses.
"E-business extends the enterprise to embrace customers and suppliers into one system," said Dale Thomas, international VP for PeopleSoft global services.
"The learning curve for users who are moving to the new system is minimal as PeopleSoft 8 has a more intuitive Web interface," added Coetzee.
The existing 108 PeopleSoft applications have been re-architected, according to Coetzee, with 59 new collaborative applications developed and made available for the e-supply chain, at a research and development investment of $500 million.
The new applications offer browser-based access and integration across enterprise boundaries. "This means that organisations can create collaborative networks that can be accessed anytime, anywhere by their customers, employees and suppliers. PeopleSoft 8 also delivers extensive wireless capabilities for mobile commerce," noted Coetzee.
The new suite of applications includes PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management, Supply Chain Management, Human Resource Management, Financials and Professional Services Automation, and other industry-specific solutions.
With the move to what Thomas called a "pure HTML" interface, the potential for application service providers (ASPs) also greatly increases. Coetzee pointed out that previous versions of PeopleSoft have already enjoyed international popularity as hosted services.
"In the SA market we will address the traditional channel market through our ASP partners," he added.
Coetzee also disclosed that the company is in the final stages of signing up local partners to an ASP programme that would be announced in the new year.
