PeopleSoft and IBM expand global partnership to provide e-business applications

Johannesburg, , 06 Jul 2000

PeopleSoft and IBM have announced an agreement to expand the companies` global sales, marketing, and development relationship around IBM DB2 Universal Database.

As part of this agreement, PeopleSoft will use DB2 Universal Database as the company`s primary Unix development platform for PeopleSoft 8, a new generation of pure applications developed on the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture, the industry`s most powerful XML and HTML platform. The companies` collaboration will enable customers to implement PeopleSoft 8 eBusiness applications on DB2 quickly and cost effectively across a variety of platforms, including Windows 2000 and NT, AIX and OS/390, Linux, HP-UX, and Sun Solaris.

"PeopleSoft eBusiness applications on DB2 will provide customers with the ability to deploy a single e-business platform configuration of proven technology on their choice of the leading server operating environments," says Jan Coetzee, MD of PeopleSoft South Africa. "The joint development efforts and e-business consulting expertise will offer comprehensive, flexible solutions to customers."

"A robust database and application platform are checklist items for any eBusiness," adds Peter Gassner, VP and GM of PeopleTools, PeopleSoft`s technology division. "PeopleSoft Internet applications running on the IBM platform will position companies for greater growth while increasing their competitive advantage."

"This expanded partnership offers customers more choice and a rock solid foundation for capitalising on the Internet," says Janet Perna, general manager, IBM Management Solutions. "The partnership will help companies take full advantage of their information assets and transform themselves into agile and highly scalable e-businesses."
