Sun International, the largest entertainment group in South Africa, has recently completed the implementation of PeopleSoft Human Resources Management System (HRMS) in 16 units, in and around Southern Africa. The HRMS was developed for Sun International to optimise the management of its people resources in locations around Southern Africa. The project was deployed and managed by Arthur Andersen who has a long-standing relationship with Sun International.
Sun International had identified the need for a more focused HR system. It also wanted to automate the movement of information around the business, in order to give managers access to information online, in real time, when required.
According to Brett Nicholls, group HR strategic manager at Sun International, the diverse geographic locations of the entertainment centres made it very difficult for Sun International to structure its Human Resources (HR) system. In fact, many of the hotels were still using paper based systems. "We chose PeopleSoft specifically for career development, equity reporting, training and succession planning. The decision will also empower line management, as well as automate repetitive administration," says Nicholls.
"There was a definite need to consolidate the Sun International system, which will allow for a central source of data for the group," comments Daryl Robbins, project senior at Arthur Andersen. "Enterprise corporations are now realising that with the new equity bill, information will have to be available and consolidated at all times This is impossible if there is no structured system in place."
Jan Coetzee, managing director at PeopleSoft South Africa says, "PeopleSoft believes that business requirements drive enterprise applications and not the other way around. PeopleSoft`s flexibility to support the Sun International business processes is what makes it an obvious choice. Our delivered business process solutions are based on best of breed products, and solid research and we empower users through extensive training."
"The implementation process of the Sun International project is now complete and running according to plan. Arthur Anderson and PeopleSoft had an incredible team working on the project and has been a fine example of companies working together in order to complete a major project according to plan," concludes Nicholls.
The Sun International HR solution has been built on a Unix operating system supported by Sun Microsystems applications and database servers.
