Peregrine Systems, Inc, one of the world`s leading software companies, has announced the launch of its Integration Adapter Factory, a new line of business focused solely on developing and supporting industry-standard adapters for leading application server and enterprise application software vendors.
As a software applications provider, Peregrine is responding to customer demands for effective integration capabilities as companies are forced to integrate disparate applications across multiple technology platforms.
Businesses require integration solutions based on the same emerging standards as their application infrastructure. The dominant standard for application infrastructure is Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), and newer standards such as Web services and Extensible Markup Language (XML). These standards are helping commoditise the adapter market, giving customers what they need: a comprehensive integration solution featuring consistent quality and lower cost.
"Peregrine is the first global company to commit to building an adapter factory, and it is doing so with the support of leading application vendors," says Dave Cormack, principal consultant, Peregrine, Enterprise Solutions at MGX.
"Peregrine understands that customers experience considerable frictional cost and operational challenges in integrating software applications and systems. These adapter offerings meet the need for strong, cost-effective options in this arena. Peregrine`s recently signed agreements with industry giants will provide a strategic edge in speeding time to market for these new integration adapters and invaluable support in driving standardisation."
The Peregrine Adapter Factory drives greater return on investment and economies of scale as it meets accelerated customer demand for improved integration options.
Customers will benefit from Integration Adapters commoditised to an industry-standard integration framework based on a common JCA/J2EE connector architecture. This consistent architecture provides a certain level of familiarity across all Peregrine adapters, removing many traditional barriers to IT integration. Additionally, Peregrine`s size, presence and existing position in the market afford global support, tapping into Integration Adapter expertise in 100 offices worldwide.
"Adapters remain a strong value-add for enterprises implementing application integration technologies. The complexity of connections to underlying applications and technical infrastructures is often overlooked by vendors and implementers alike," says David McCoy, VP and research director at Gartner.
"Failing to offer a strong adapter suite in 2001 is a serious shortcoming, but just offering an adapter portfolio is to be merely competitive. Developing deep adapter capabilities is a much loftier goal and has strong payback potential if properly exploited through product market share, customer innovation and a strong, successful OEM programme."
Peregrine is offering a commercially viable alternative to traditional adapter offerings and is supported by its related successes in its OEM programme. Peregrine is an application company and partners rather than competes with application server vendors. This alignment in strategy and vision provides sound support for driving adoption of industry-wide standards. Used in conjunction with Peregrine`s business process integration, the Peregrine Adapter Factory moves integration beyond simple connectivity to include intelligent business processes. Peregrine`s standards-based approach is in contrast to the proprietary attempts at integration demonstrated by much of the market.
Peregrine Integration Adapters are generally available, fully engineered products and provide a wizard-based configuration with graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that leverage application metadata and automatically normalise all interactions to XML.
Peregrine adapters provide easy integration with a broad range of common end systems, including SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Siebel and the IBM MQSeries. Database connectivity to Oracle and through JDBC is also supported, as is mainframe connectivity to CICS and TN3270 and TN5250. These leading technology adapters are written in 100% Java with native XML support, as well as other data format standards. They are non-intrusive to target applications. Peregrine adapters also support loosely coupled JMS-based integration with IBM WebSphere MQ Integrator.
