Phoenix Software launches 2009 editions of SA's best-selling encyclopaedia software

The essential reference suite for those reliant on 100% accurate source material.

Johannesburg, 21 Oct 2008

Phoenix Software and Encyclopaedia Britannica have joined forces again to bring the latest version of South Africa's best-selling encyclopaedia software to SA retail.

The Encyclopaedia Britannica 2009 Ultimate Edition contains three age-specific encyclopaedias, packed full of accurate and trusted content on DVD format: the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Britannica Student Encyclopaedia and Britannica Children's Encyclopaedia.

Each encyclopaedia forms the cornerstone of an integrated reference library with its own distinctive interface that includes a dictionary, thesaurus, world atlas and historical timelines appropriate to the age of the user.

Among the improvements for this year is a host of new features that give knowledge seekers more help and a deeper understanding, including:

* Hundreds of new interactive study guides, exercises and learning games that help teach maths, social science, languages, arts and science;
* Lessons and activities on subjects such as how to prepare a research paper, a science project or a classroom presentation;
* Thousands of new images, videos and audio clips.

These features complement the product's already popular aides, such as Britannica Workspace and Virtual Notecards, which give comprehensive homework help along with a complete reference source.

Other features include:

* Britannica BrainStormer - This popular visual browser, based on Britannica's unique classification system, provides an exhilarating ride though the encyclopaedia, making research easier and more fun;
* 166 000 online links to magazine articles and high-quality Web sites;
* Merriam-Webster's Student and Collegiate Dictionaries and Thesauruses;
* Rich multimedia - Thousands of new images, audio and video clips that bring subjects to life;
* Britannica Biographies, with more than 2 000 articles on the greatest minds of all time.

Registered buyers also receive a free one-year subscription to Britannica Online worth R599.99. The content of the site is revised and updated continuously, ensuring you have the most up-to-date information available.

Included in the range is the Britannica 2009 Deluxe Edition DVD which contains the full Encyclopaedia Britannica and the Britannica 2009 Student Edition CD, suitable for ages 6-14.

"This is the top-selling encyclopaedia software for several reasons," said Lotta Farley, Head of Promotions and Licensing with Encyclopaedia Britannica UK. "It has effective tools and activities to help students succeed in school, its content is reliable and up to date, and it's convenient and safe: everything is right there on your computer."

Jason Phillips, Sales Director, Phoenix Software added: "We are delighted to bring the Encyclopaedia Britannica 2009 editions to South African consumers. The Ultimate Edition contains over 100 000 trusted and accurate articles, and is perfect for those revising for important exams, a curious child learning about the world around them or every one of us who has a thirst for knowledge."
