MST (Maintenance System Technologies), the Pretoria-based Enterprise Asset Management solutions provider, today announced that Pietersburg Silicon Smelters has successfully reached its implementation goal and increased operational efficiency by implementing MAXIMO. The next step in this implementation will be to reduce maintenance costs in 2002.
"We chose MAXIMO because we needed a comprehensive EAM solution that could be interfaced with our financial system on AS400 and our EDMS (Electronic Document Management System). Among other requirements, the system also had to be able to give us rapid and easy access to technical and financial information and improve quality of work control. Improving the work environment with specific reference to safety aspects and better preparation for work execution was an important criteria," says Pascal Poupon, Engineering Manager at Pietersburg Silicon Smelters.
"Silicon Smelters evaluated several other EAM systems both locally and internationally and found MAXIMO to be the best package available," adds Poupon.
Since the successful commissioning of MAXIMO in April this year, Pietersburg Silicon Smelters has capitalised on the benefits of MAXIMO. "Since we`ve implemented MAXIMO, there has been a steady improvement of work quality and efficiency resulting in optimised operations. The availability of all our equipment are now measured and the maintenance department enjoys a high level of transparency," comments Poupon.
According to Poupon, additional objectives of implementing MAXIMO were:
* To initiate corrective actions in the form of improvements in reliability, instituting preventive inspections or condition monitoring of plants.
* Monitor the impact of corrective actions within the plant and on equipment from both a technical and economical point of view.
* Ensure efficient follow up of internal customer requests and requirements and providing feedback on all actions taken.
* By giving the planner, preperators and team leaders the opportunity of using a comprehensive technical data base so as to reduce preparation and work time for planned and unplanned work.
Danie van Vuuren, Sales Manager: Africa, MST comments that MAXIMO operates as Silicon Smelters` central work and asset maintenance system for planned, preventative, corrective, emergency and ad-hoc maintenance of the Pietersburg plant, facilities, infrastructure and mobile equipment. Other value-added services offered by MAXIMO include planning, scheduling and allocation of tracking of resources.
