Pinnacle Micro's Proline range -the fastest growing desktop brand in SA

Johannesburg, 17 Jan 2008

Pinnacle Micro, one of the "big six" distributors of ICT equipment and services in South Africa, is planning an aggressive drive to gain more market share in the South African desktop and server market, saying it has increased market share in the desktop space rapidly over the past three years - and recently signed up 28 new resellers for its server range.

BMI-TechKnowledge ranks the Pinnacle Micro Proline desktop range as number three in overall sales in South Africa, as well as ranking it as the fastest growing desktop brand in the country.

"We are definitely gaining market share rapidly in the desktop arena," said Tim Humphreys-Davis, national sales and marketing director at Pinnacle Micro.

"We intend increasing our market share over the next 12 months, as well as improving our share of the server market - a market we entered only recently. But, we expect noticeable revenue increases here, too, with our separately branded Supermicro servers."

Pinnacle Micro launched its range of top-end Supermicro servers after signing a distribution agreement with US-listed server manufacturer, Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI), a leader in application optimised high performance server solutions.

"When it comes to the server market we are not in the double digits yet in terms of market share, but we intend to grow aggressively, and recently appointed 28 resellers for our new server range," said Humphreys-Davies.

The 28 resellers echo the distributor's national footprint, giving the company representation in all major cities in South Africa, as well as in Botswana and Namibia.

He said the company's ISO-accredited assembly line in Midrand is capable of producing 12 000 desktop units every month.

Pinnacle Micro, part of the JSE-listed Pinnacle Technology Holdings (PTH) group, reached the R1 billion turnover figure for the year ended June 2007. PTH's total revenue was R1.72 billion.

Founded in 1993, the company has enjoyed significant growth and success - with growth rates of almost 100% achieved in 2005 and 2006.
